Fssai Registration

Type of License Description Eligibility
FSSAI Registration (Basic) Suitable for small businesses or startups. Annual turnover less than ₹12 Lakhs.
FSSAI State License For businesses already under FSSAI Registration with growing turnover. Turnover between ₹12 Lakhs to ₹20 Crores.
FSSAI Central License Mandatory for large-scale operations, import/export, or businesses under Central Govt. agencies.

  • Wholesalers with turnover above ₹30 Crores
  • Five Star Hotels, Food Caterers to Central Govt., Importers/Exporters
  • Dairy: >50,000L/day or 2500 tonnes/year
  • Vegetable oil: >2 tonnes/day
  • Meat processing: >500 kg/day or 150 tonnes/year
  • Slaughtering: >50 large animals / >150 small / >1000 poultry birds per day

FSSAI registration is required for small food businesses with turnover less than ₹12 lakhs per annum. The certificate must be displayed at the business premises.

Food businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores must obtain a State License. This includes businesses upgrading from registration and new businesses with projected turnover above ₹12 lakhs.

Food importers/exporters and businesses like retailers, distributors, marketers, restaurants, caterers with turnover over ₹20 crores, and wholesalers with turnover over ₹30 crores must obtain a Central License.

FSSAI licenses are valid up to 5 years. Renewal must be done before expiry; failing to renew on time results in expiry and a fresh registration will be required.
